It has been confirmed that the music for the upcoming series of Doctor Who will be composed by Segun Akinola.

Akinola will not only write the music for all 10 episodes of the 11th series, he will be offering a new take on the Doctor Who theme tune.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall said: “We’re over the moon Segun’s agreed to join us, to provide the score for the next phase of the Doctor Who adventure.

“From our very first conversations, it was obvious Segun was a passionate, collaborative and delightful human being as well as a fantastic and bold composer. We’re looking forward to introducing the world to his exciting and emotional soundtracks for the Thirteenth Doctor.”

Akinola previously wrote the music for A Moving Image and Dear Mr Shakespeare. He has worked for the BBC several times in the past, including their four part documentary Black and British: A Forgotten History and The Human Body: Secrets of Your Life Revealed.

Akinola himself said about the opportunity: “Doctor Who is woven into the fabric of British culture and recognized globally. I am absolutely thrilled to be given the privilege of working on such a beloved series and to bring my musical voice to it.”

The eleventh series of Doctor Who will air this fall.
