Up until 2019, Netflix has kept schtum about the most watched TV shows and movies. Now, we regularly receive an updated top 10 for the most watched shows, as a way of the company being more transparent with their audience and investors. Here are the most recent results.
Most Watched TV Shows, Documentaries and Movies for the week of 25th – 31stof July
- Stranger Things
- Orange Is the New Black
- Another Life
- Secret Obsession
- Jane the Virgin
- The Great Hack
- Queer Eye
- A Simple Favor
- Money Heist
There is no surprise here that at the top spot sits “Stranger Things”, given all the publicity it has received and fierce marketing since it first was introduced in 2016. Although it didn’t finish at the top spot, “Orange is the New Black”, still managed to be the most watched show overall with 105 accounts watching at least a single episode.
Although Netflix does not release any specific details or data regarding how many viewers are watching shows or the duration spent watching them, this is still the best idea we’ve ever been given yet about how well shows are performing on the streaming service. Interestingly, shows that do not originate from Netflix such as “Suits” and “Jane The Virgin” continue to maintain a strong standing on this list.
Perhaps it’s because there are still ongoing concerns, with new episodes added weekly for each. Also, interestingly in the overall standings, only three non-TV show entries are listed. “A Simple Favor”, a black comedy mystery thriller starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, “Secret Obsession”, a psychological thriller starring Brenda Song and Mike Vogel and “The Great Hack”, a documentary about Cambridge Analytica and their involvement with Facebook. Of the other listed shows, the only one that isn’t fictional is “Queer Eye”.
