Jim Carrey is preparing for world domination — Sonic style!

After years of trying to get it together, Paramount finally secured the rights from Sony Pictures last October to make a film about Sonic the Hedgehog. The super-fast blue video game character who can run at the speed of sound and collects tokens with his friends’ Tails and Knuckles has been around since 1991.

Jeff Fowler, whose 2005 short, Gopher Broke, was nominated for an Oscar, is set to direct the project, making this his first feature-length film. Westworld actor, James Marsden, is already attached, as well as Tika Sumpter of The Haves and the Have Nots.

Kidding star, Jim Carrey, is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to join the film as the villain, Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik.

The film is expected to be a combination of live action and CGI with a release date set for 15 November 2019.
